Lab Analysis
The Lab Analysis tool helps interpret laboratory results, identifying trends and generating clinical alerts for decision support.
Overview
The module processes structured or unstructured lab data (PDFs, images, pasted text) to:
- Identify Patterns: Detect subtle changes and trends (e.g., gradual hemoglobin decline).
- Generate Differentials: Suggest hypotheses based on anomaly combinations.
- Alert Risks: Flag critical values and potential collection errors or inconsistencies.
How It Works
1. Data Input
Paste the report text, upload the PDF, or drag an image into the workspace. The system uses OCR and NLP to extract values.
2. Hybrid Processing
- Rule Engine: Compares values against standard reference ranges (adjustable by age/sex).
- AI Agent: Analyzes the clinical context (if available) to interpret whether a "normal" value is clinically appropriate for that specific patient.
3. Evidence-Based Results
All analyses include bibliographic references from medical guidelines and current literature.
Key Features
Report Synthesis
Instead of an endless list of numbers, Corvus generates a narrative summary of the most relevant findings, grouped by system (e.g., Renal Function, CBC, Electrolytes).
Trend Identification
The system maps historical results to visualize disease trajectory.
Example: Creatinine stabilization after intervention, or progressive rise in inflammatory markers.
Lab DDx Tool
The AI suggests explanations for complex lab findings, such as acid-base disorders or multifactorial anemias.
Workflow: Check-to-Accept
Following the product's core principle, Lab Analysis does not replace the physician:
- The System Proposes: AI generates a draft analysis.
- The Clinician Reviews: You validate the extracted data and interpretation.
- Explicit Acceptance: Use "Add to Plan" or "Copy to Note" after validation.
Best Practices
- Provide Context: A creatinine of 1.5mg/dL means different things in a young athlete vs. a frail elderly patient.
- Validate Extraction: Always check that numbers extracted from PDFs/images match the original document.
- Consider Timing: Isolated labs are less valuable than historical series.
Attention: Critical values should be validated immediately with the laboratory per your institution's protocol. Corvus is a support tool, not a primary emergency notification system.
