Evidence-Based Medicine

Develop skills in clinical question formulation, evidence searching, and critical appraisal.

Overview

This module covers the complete EBM workflow: from question formulation to evidence application. It integrates three tools that work together.

Module Structure

The module is split into 3 main tabs:

  1. PICO Formulation — Structure your clinical questions.
  2. Deep Research — Search and synthesize medical evidence (Dr. Corvus).
  3. Evidence Analysis — Critically appraise individual studies.

Tab 1: PICO Formulation

The PICO framework organizes clinical questions:

  • Patient/Problem: Who is the patient? What's the condition?
  • Intervention: What are you considering?
  • Comparison: What's the alternative?
  • Outcome: What are you trying to achieve?

Example: "In [Patients with Atrial Fibrillation], does [DOACs] compared to [Warfarin] reduce the risk of [Stroke] with lower [Bleeding] rates?"

Tab 2: Deep Research (Dr. Corvus Research)

Search and synthesize medical evidence with AI assistance.

What Dr. Corvus does:

  • Searches multiple databases simultaneously (PubMed, guidelines, etc.).
  • Extracts key findings from abstracts.
  • Synthesizes evidence into a direct, actionable answer.
  • Rates evidence quality and identifies knowledge gaps.
caution

Attention: AI-generated research summaries are for educational purposes. Always verify the cited primary sources and apply clinical judgment.

Tab 3: Evidence Analysis

Critically appraise studies and abstracts.

Features:

  • Upload/Paste: Paste the abstract or study text.
  • AI Appraisal: Automatic study type identification (RCT, cohort, etc.), strengths, limitations, and potential bias.
  • Relevance: Assessment of how the study applies to your specific clinical scenario.

Integration Flow

Highlight feature: One-Click Transfer:

  1. Formulate your question in the PICO tab.
  2. Click "Transfer to Research."
  3. Deep Research opens automatically with pre-filled terms.
note

EBM isn't about reading everything — it's about knowing how to find and evaluate what's relevant for your patient at the moment of decision.
